On the 29th of August 2017, the Academic Director and a delegation of the Naval Academy of the Italian Navy, visited the JRCC Larnaca, during their visit to Cyprus with the training vessel “Palinuro”.
The sailing vessel was built in France in 1934 and was mainly used as a fishing vessel, until it was acquired by the Italian Navy, in 1955. The vessel is serving as a training vessel of the Naval Academy of Italy, until today.
The delegation was briefed on the organization and operation and ongoing upgrade programs of the Center, and specifically on the additional capabilities that the “ZENON” Coordination Center may provide in case of crisis and evacuation of population from states of the Middle East to Cyprus.
The Academic Director and the Captain of “Palinuro” training vessel, after the completion of the visit, expressed their gratitude and satisfaction regarding the overall organization and operational readiness of the Center and their important role during the confrontation of any humanitarian operation in the region. They also highlighted that their visit to the JRCC, is an important experience for the cadets, from which they received essential information on issues that they will be called to handle in real life situations, during their carrier in the Italian Navy.
