Phonetic Alphabet

The ICAO phonetic alphabet (also known as NATO phonetic alphabet, the ICAO phonetic or ICAO spelling alphabet, as well as the ITU phonetic alphabet) was developed so that critical combinations of letters (such as “m” or “n”) and numbers can be pronounced and understood by those who transmit and receive voice messages by radio or telephone regardless of their native language, especially when navigation or persons might be endangered due to transmission static.
