The JRCC Larnaca in the context of achieving modernization and continuous improvement of its Search and Rescue services, started in October 2014 and successfully completed in April 2015, the harmonization of its operational procedures with the requirements of the international quality standard ISO 9001 of 2008.
The whole effort of harmonization with the quality standard requirements lasted five months (October 2014 - February 2015) and was carried out exclusively by the JRCC staff without any contractor or consultant. The outcome of the inspection justifies the effort of the JRCC staff as in short period of time managed to be fully aligned with the quality standard 9001:2008 and therefore now ranks in the list of certified companies - services of the International Certification Agency «IQNet».
Specifically, the JRCC reached an agreement with the Cyprus Certification Company which was implemented in two phases (Inspections). The first inspection took place on the 29 of March and the second one on 29-30 of April during which the final evaluation of the Centre was held.
This certification is of utmost importance since it formally confirms that the Search & Rescue (SAR) services and operational procedures followed by the JRCC operation centre meet all the requirements of international SAR Organizations (IMO, ICAO) and applied in the same way by the Centre’s staff.
In addition to the above, the ISO certification contributes in establishing the JRCC Larnaca in the wider South-eastern Mediterranean region as a hub, providing not only humanitarian services but also expertise.
